Cantiague Park Playground

Cantiague Park The playground at Cantiague Park in Hicksville provides three age-grouped playsets and a handicapped play area.

Cantiague Park

Cantiague Park in Hicksville is the home to a number of recreation areas including a public golf course, driving range, miniature golf, ice skating rink and pool complex. The playground is a terrific destination, with large play spaces and a padded play surface. There is a large parking lot outside of the ice rink, and getting to the playground involves walking around the rink to the west -- it's not easily visible from the main parking lot.

The oldest playset, intended for kids from nine to twelve, features multilevel climbing areas and steep sheet metal slides. There is also a corkscrew slide and a seperate bridge and slide set with built-in tic tac toe.

A four-swing set sits in a shared space between the older and middle play areas. The black surfaces can get pretty hot under the summer sun, but there is plenty of shade around to hide out in.

The middle set, intended for ages six to eight, combines short double sliders and taller plastic models. It has a number of well-designed built-ins including alphabets and shape signs. A large gear field rounds out the center platform. A seperate set features a sheet metal corkscrew slider and a high bridge.

Some of the toddler swings are put together with these nice no-pinch handles. The whole area is fenced in, but allows for kids to move between the play sets and the swings on their own.

The smallest area, for kids aged two to five, has three play sets with a double slide, covered slide and a tunnel. A separate area called the Club House has a number of steering wheels and portholes to climb through.

There are two large sandboxes that join the small and medium play sets. There are also two sand tables for standing play. The sand is soft and clean. Just outside of the small play area is a set of public restrooms. There is also a secondary parking lot in this area, which is much closer to the playground than the main lot.

One last play area worth mentioning is this handicapped area that features a number of ramps and cross bars for wheelchair play. A very nice touch to an excellent playground complex.
