Hidden Pond Park
|The Hidden Pond Park in Hauppauge is home to a town of Islip pool, a skating rink, tennis courts, ball fields and a small playground.|
The playground at Hidden Pond Park is located all the way to the rear of the park. You'll pass the playing fields and the pool & ice rink complex before arriving at the parking lot for the playground and tennis courts. There is plenty of free parking, and the lot is paved and well-marked. This steel and plastic playset is the main attraction. It features a pair of slides with two platform levels and an easy climb.
The swing sets at Hidden Pond are very new and in great shape. There is one bank of toddler swings and one bank of standard swings. They hang from center-based posts and have coated chains and no-pinch handles. The standard swings are on extra long chains for great, high swinging. The rock climbing wall above presents a challenging climb for older kids.
The main set has this fun curved tunnel that runs under the main platform and out to the corkscrew slide landing. The play surface at Hidden Pond is sand, and the area under the platform is a good sandbox in the shade for those hot and sunny days.
There are three anchored rockers with an animal theme in the center of the playground. The area is not fenced in and is surrounded by woods, so keep an eye on kids who tend to wander. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables that ring the play area to sit in the shade. The adjacent tennis and handball courts are in good shape and are lit for nighttime play. The lights go out at 10:00 p.m. Bathrooms are located at the pool and rink complex, but it's not very close to the playground. It's not a walk you'd want to make in an emergency.
