The Weekend Planner

This is a big weekend on Long Island, with the New York Philharmonic's annual concert and fireworks show at Heckscher Park, as well as the International Festival in Lindenhurst and Rockville Center's 115th birthday Bash.

Things get started this weekend in Lindenhurst on Friday evening with the annual International Festival. Our Lady of Perpetual Help presents the Annual International Feast and Street Fair. Delicious ethnic food, rides (with POP & Advance ticket sales) live entertainment nightly, Vegas, vendors, fun for everyone! The Street fair will be held on Sunday July 13th. In Sayville, the Family Fridays are presenting Beach Blanket Bingo at Rotary Park. On Overlook Beach at 7:00 p.m., there's a free concert by 1980's hitmaker Howard Jones. Finally, at 8:00 p.m. there's a show at Averill Boulevard Park in Franklin Square by retro group The Dedications.

Saturday brings a number of big fairs, including the Lazy Days of Summer at the Levittown pool. At John Burns Park in Massapequa, they're holding a child safety fair with local law enforcement and special demonstrations with a show to follow. The museums at Stony Brook are hosting a children's fair, as well as Caumsett State Park. Saturday evening brings out the stars, literally at the Alley Pond Environmental Center in Douglaston. There's also a 7:30 presentation of Beatlemania at Senator Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park and the aforementioned Philharmonic concert at Heckscher. Finally, Rockville Center will celebrate its birthday at Mill River Park with fireworks at 9:00 p.m.

The Lindenhurst fair continues through Sunday, or you could head over to the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum for their Pirate Festival. Out in Southaven Park, the Long Island Live Steamers are running their miniature steam trains from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Caumsett Summer Cultural Arts Festival presents a production of The Emporer's New Clothes at 3:00 p.m. and there's a Persian music concert by Afshin at 7:30 at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. If you're taking a long weekend, head out to Montauk on Monday for their weekly concert on the green at 6:30 p.m.
