The Weekend Planner, July 25

Ahoy, mateys! This weekend brings the Long Island Pirate Festival to Greenport's Mitchell Park. There's also the Feast of St. Rocco and some concerts here and there.

The Pirate Day Fetival in Greenport got an early start on the weekend by opening festivities on Thursday. There's a nightly show at the amphitheater at 8:00 p.m. and concerts that run throughout the day. All of the festivities are free. If you're going to head out east and want to make a day of it, the Oysterponds Historical Society in Orient is hosting a demonstration of colonial-era games and toys on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Tiny Tots on the Beach program at Orient Point State Park presents 'Life in a Shell' from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

For music lovers, Friday evening brings music with a western theme to the Peconic riverfront in Riverhead with a concert featuring selections from Rodgers And Hammerstein's Oklahoma! and Aaron Copeland's Grand Canyon Suite. On Saturday night, the John J. Burns Park in Massapequa plays host to Grammy award-winning jazz singer Jack Jones (the guy who sings The Love Boat theme!). On Sunday, classic R&B comes alive at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington with Dr. K's Motown Review at 1:00 p.m.

The Feast of St. Rocco at the Church of St. Rocco in Glen Cove will be running all weekend with food, music, games and amusement rides. Theater options include a performance of The Emperor's New Clothes at the Common Ground in Sayville on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and an outdoor movie presentation of Ice Age at the Babylon Town Hall at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
