Roosevelt Park

Roosevelt Park Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in the town of Oyster Bay features three playgrounds and a beach on the shore of historic Oyster Bay.

Roosevelt Park
The main playground at Roosevelt Park is on the western end near the bath house. There are two playsets and three swingsets, all with a wonderful view of the water and the boats out on the bay. There are three slides: one corkscrew and two small ones that descend from platforms at various levels. There are a pair of ladder climbs and two easy stairways to get onto the playset.

The play surface at the main playground is a soft composite with a large sandpit area that surrounds one of the swingsets. None of the equipment at Roosevelt Park is particularly large, but there's enough room to explore. There is one pavilion on the large set to hide out from the sun, although there is plenty of room under many of the platforms for kids to hide out in the shade. This entire play area is fenced in, but not gated. There are only two benches inside the playground for parents to sit at.

Roosevelt Park
The smaller playset features two covered pavilions on a single-level play area. There are two slides and an easy-climb stairway. The bath house is immediately adjacent to the playground, so the public restrooms are nearby. This is also the entrance to the beach, so there are outdoor showers and lifeguards on duty during the summer season. Parking is available on the other side of the bath house, as well as on the eastern end of the park.

The three swingsets here are in good condition. Two are over the composite surface, with two standard swings on one set and two toddler swings on the other. The chains are coated and both sets offer a great view of the harbor while you swing. The third set is over a large sandpit and features four standard swings. There is plenty of swing capacity at Roosevelt Park, there was no waiting during our visit.

Roosevelt Park
The rest of the park offers plenty of open space and a little bit of history. The Roosevelt Memorial Rocks tell the story of Teddy Roosevelt's life through rocks from the many places where he made history, such as San Juan and Panama. There is a long promenade along the marina where kids can get a closeup look at the boats docked on Oyster Bay. There are also two very large picnic pavilions that are available for reservation through the Town of Oyster Bay.

Roosevelt Park
Each of the picnic areas has its own playground, with a swingset and play area with a number of climbs and two slides. The two outer playgrounds are nearly identical, except that the one closer to the main playground has a trio of anchored rockers. These outer areas also have a nice view of the Oyster Bay train station, which will excite any kids that are into trains when an engine pulls in and blows its horn.
