Pumpkin picking on an old-fashioned animal farm. You can pet and feed sheep, goats, turkeys pigs and more in addition to finding your great pumpkin. Open weekends from noon to 4:00 p.m., admission is $6 for adults and $5 for kids (cash only).

One of the longest-running and largest haunted attractions on Long Island. It may be a little too intense for small children (there are live actors in creepy scenes), and they're promising an especially scary time to celebrate their 20th year. Admission is $10 per person, and the gates open at 7:00 p.m. Open Friday and Saturday nights, October 17th & 18th and 24th & 25th.

Corn maze, hayrides, a combine slide and a kiddie train complement the pumpkin picking. General admission is $12 and includes all of the attractions except the train ride. Open weekends and Columbus day from 8:00 a.m. to sunset.

The Habes family runs three farms with pumpkin picking and corn mazes on the north fork. The Wizard of Oz corn maze in Mattituck is the one that is open every day, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The farm in Jamesport has a Wild West theme and is open on weekends and holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Finally, the Middle Earth farm in Riverhead features a corn maze that is open weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and again on Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Admission to the night maze is $9.95. There are pony rides for $5 a ride on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All of the locations feature pumpkin picking, hay rides and food. There are baby farm animals at the Mattituck and Jamesport locations as well as live music. Admission at Mattituck is $4 for adults, $3 for kids over two. $11.95 for adults and $9.95 over two will get you admission into the Jamesport farm and the wild west game courtyard. All three locations feature play equipment.

A trio of mazes in varying degrees of difficulty present a challenge for all ages. Each maze features a map with puzzles to solve as you make your way through the maze. They're open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends and holiday. Admission is $9.

Not a pumpkin patch, but for $5 you can explore the maze and kids can drive through a specially designed tricycle maze. There are also pony rides and picked pumpkins available. Weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., also open on Columbus Day.

Pumpkin picking, a corn maze and inflatable bouncers highlight the daytime activities, while a haunted mansion and corn maze take over when the sun goes down. There is a pirate ship playground, hay rides and Long Island's largest hay pyramid. The patch is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day until Halloween. Admission to the children's haunted mansion is $5, the corn maze is $8. The really scary nighttime haunted mansion and maze are open Friday through Sunday until November 2nd. Admission is $16 for the mansion, $11 for the maze or $22 for both. The gates open at 7:00 p.m.

One of Long Island's oldest pumpkin farms, Stakey's is one of the few that is open every day. Monday through Friday, the patch is open from noon to 5:00 p.m. On weekends and holidays, they're open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There's a corn maze, pony rides, bounce house and face painting. On October 11th and 18th, you can meet Butch Patrick, the guy who played Eddie Munster on the classic TV series.

Tales of the Haunted Forest

The Yaphank Presbyterian Church presents their annual spook walk that runs from Thursday through Sunday, October 23rd to the 26th. Also on Thursday the 30th. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. and admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children under eight.

The girl scout camp in Bayport will open on the weekends of October 18th & 19th and 25th & 26th for a spooky walk through the camp and trick or treating. There will be an hourly costume contest as well. The cost is $10 per child, and preregistration is required.

The Nassau County Museum of Art showcases over 3,000 hand-carved jack o'lanterns on their grounds from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on October 23rd through the 26th. Tickets for timed entry must be purchased in advance, $14 for adults and $7 for kids aged six to twelve. Five years old and under are free. Inside, you'll find over a mile of trails lined with pumpkins carved in all kinds of faces and scenes. Hot chocolate and cider, candy apples, cookies and pumpkin pie will be available to warm up your night.

Pumpkin picking is only the beginning at White Post Farm's weekend Fall Festival through October 26th. There is a daily stage show they call the "The Hokey Hootenanny," with music, dancing and comedy for kids. They also have sing along hay rides, pony rides, the Farmland Express miniature train ride, a playground with wooden play structures and sandboxes, and a field full of inflatable bouncers. Weekend hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and admission is $15.
